The CUSA® Excel+ Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator offers several solutions to assist neurosurgeons in their cranial tumor resection practice providing the combination of speed and selectivity needed to perform both cytoreduction and gentle transection of soft to hard tissue.
Speed
CUSA® Excel+ systems are powered by C4 technology, which provide four synergistic technologies working together to optimize surgical work:
- Constant Tissue Contact - High suction maintains constant contact between the handpiece and target tissues, enhancing the cavitation effect¹.
- High frequency (36 kHz) tip - reduced amplitude provides a more concentrated effect, minimizing the risk of side effects.
- Adaptive Power - It automatically adjusts power in proportion to tissue needs to maintain handpiece vibration in the event of a stable design impact.
- ShearTip™ Surgical Handpiece - Its special design creates intersecting acoustic waves that enhance cavitation without any mechanical effort.
Selectivity
- The TissueSelect® option allows neurosurgeons to increase selectivity and control when removing tissue close to critical structures such as the pia mater or vessels.
- It uses pulsed energy and controlled reserve power that creates a rebound effect at the end when it encounters a collagen-rich structure.
- Haptic feedback improves the ability of neurosurgeons to distinguish between target tissue and critical structures and allows them to move the tip before it can cause damage, creating a wider margin of control.
Versatility
- The TipSelect™ feature offers a large selection of 12 tips for 12 neurosurgery decisions:
- 9 conventional soft tissue tips with 3 different inner diameters and 3 different designs
- ShearTip™ surgical handpiece designed to remove tough and fibrous tissue
- MicroTip Plus™ surgical handpiece designed for transnasal access or deep tumor removal
- The SaberTip™ surgical handpiece is designed for bone sculpting
- Thus, the most appropriate tip can be selected based on the target tissue profile (consistency, location, size, and access) and the preference of the neurosurgeon to promote tissue removal efficiency.
- When working under the microscope, curved tips and pre-aspiration holes help improve visualization of the surgical field.
- The handpiece can also be changed during surgery if the surgical conditions change.
Intuitive use
- A user-friendly control panel, color-coded tubing and tubing allow for intuitive system setup by medical staff and help save valuable time in the operating room.
